TOWSON, Md. – Senior Ashley Yoh posted three points in the last minute of the fourth quarter to give the Lycoming College women’s basketball team the lead, but a desperation 3-pointer at the buzzer from Goucher College sent the game to overtime, where Goucher managed to pull out a 97-94 decision in Landmark Conference action on Saturday.
With less than a minute left on the clock in the fourth quarter, Yoh drove forward with a jump shot to reclaim a one-point lead for Lycoming (3-18 overall, 2-12 Landmark). Yoh and senior Meghan Dufner each followed up with free throws to widen Lycoming’s lead to 85-82 with 4.5 seconds left, which Goucher countered with a 3-pointer from 40 feet that tied the game and led to overtime play.
Goucher (12-8 overall, 5-8 Landmark) bounced out with a layup and free throw to claim a three-point lead in the first minute of overtime play. Yoh added two free throws in the second minute, but the Gophers quickly rebounded with two 3-pointers, bringing their lead to 94-87. Senior Mya Wetzel hit a layup and Dufner added two free throws with two minutes remaining, closing the gap to three points. After a timeout, Yoh came back to add a free throw with 49 seconds remaining, closing Goucher’s lead to two points, 94-92. Goucher quickly countered with three free throws. Freshman Jocelyn McCracken, a Jersey Shore graduate, notched a jump shot, bringing the final to 97-94.
To kick off the fourth quarter senior Alicia Goldenziel hit a jump shot in the first minute. Two minutes later, Wetzel and junior Kami Abdo posted back-to-back layups. The Gophers closed the gap to one-point, 77-76, following a series of free throws and a jump shot. With four minutes remaining in play, Goucher secured a one-point lead, 78-77, with a jump shot. After Goucher added another jumper, McCracken responded with a layup, returning the Gopher’s lead to one point, 82-81. With 54 seconds on the clock, Yoh drove forward with a jump shot, reclaiming Lycoming’s one-point lead, 83-82.

At the beginning of the third quarter, Goucher widened their second-quarter lead with a 3-pointer and layup, which Wetzel countered by hitting a 3-pointer. The Gophers immediately responded with a 3-pointer of their own. Junior Allison Fisher hit a 3-point jump shot in the third minute, bringing the score within three points at 51-48, before returning with a layup in the fourth minute. Wetzel followed up to tie the game and claim the lead seconds later. Wetzel secured two free throws and launched a 3-pointer through the hoop, bringing the game to 55-51. Goucher added a three pointer in the fifth minute, closing the gap to one, but Wetzel answered with another 3-pointer. As Goucher made offensive efforts with two layups and two free throws, Wetzel returned to the 3-pointer line to drain her fourth 3-pointer of the third quarter, securing Lycoming’s 71-65 advantage leading into the final period.
Wetzel led Lycoming by adding 25 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Wetzel also posted five 3-pointers, which gives her 164 in her collegiate career. Wetzel secured her first 3-pointer in the eighth minute of the second quarter and followed up with four more 3-pointers in the third period, draining one in the second, fourth, fifth and ninth minutes. Wetzel needs one 3-pointer to match the school record, which was set by Allison Mock ’09 with 165.

After Goucher went on a six-point run, Fisher ended the quarter with a free throw, helping Lycoming maintain a five-point advantage.
